Friday comes eventually

My am I slack. Well, to be fair, I did go on holiday abroad and then had an extended break caused by public holidays here. So what did I do that week? I got test coverage over all of my existing models and most of my controllers. I learnt why Behaviour-Driven Development is not something I should have delayed for as long as I did. And I painted some stuff. Since then I’ve improved my home storage server (it’s a beast, 12 terabytes of RAID6 in a tiny box) by getting rid of Samba, NFS, and FTP and just using SFTP (SSH’s built in FTP server implementation). Why use SFTP because it is actually faster for various Windows installations, easier to integrate and more secure. I’m still annoyed with that server. The FTTH (Fibre to the Home/my desk) router I have has a stupid hard-coded DHCP server that forwards traffic on stupid routes. Frequently it sends data out into the Internet before sending it back to the computer right next to it. No idea how to fix it (it’s in Korean) and no one I’ve asked has any clue (there are very, very few Korean hackers and tinkerers).

Seems I’m not the only one with this issue of distraction and focus (http://www.kevinjcurtin.com/home/2011/9/18/are-you-like-me-or-do-you-have-discipline.html). Strangely, I learn a lot along the way despite chopping and changing tasks frequently. More than even I realise sometimes. Still, I’m hungry for more information, skills and knowledge. Hungrier than there are hours in the day for consumption.

I do want to write more though. There should be at least a post a week from now on. I will basically just be reflecting and rambling but I hope you, dear reader, have come to expect nothing less from me. Come November, I intend to post an entire book here from an idea I’ve been kicking around for a while.
